Let’s count to a hundred and think about this movie while we do.
Young woman from a foster background, marrying into a quirky rich family. Desperate for a family of her own. Alas, they’re Satanists, with their very own goat stables, pit of decaying bodies, and a deal with the Devil to be rich forever… there’s only one silly rule. Every time someone marries into the family, the new addition needs to draw a card from a box. The card will have the name of a game on it. You know, like Snap, or Go Fish, or Hide and Seek. Mmmm. Yes. Hide and Seek.
Which of course she draws, and wanders off in some mild irritation and confusion to hide. Without being told that she will be killed on sight, because if she survives to dawn, everyone else dies. A small oversight on the part of her beloved newly minted husband. Whoops!
So I’m not going to spoiler how it unfolds. It’s good. It’s pretty good. It’s actually very good. Pacing is good, and although our feisty female lead makes one or two questionable choices, she only requires being rescued once. And overall, you know, I can make allowances: thus I’m awarding her the real female hero tag. Also, I now need to own yellow canvas sneakers.
