Ah, jeez. I had the beginning of this review/memory note all worked out and then, then I went and looked some stuff up. This is not the second in the Jumanji movie world, it’s the third. I remember Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) but I had forgotten – or desperately clawed it from my memory – that there was a very first Jumanji movie all the way back in 1995.
So whatever I was going to say, now says this: this movie has no right to be as good as it is. Like the movie before it in 2017, the casting is spot on. The effects are the top notch required to support this movie. The narrative is simple. The plot is virtually non-existent because of the premise of the movie. The pacing is solid. There are no wasted moments. It just thunders along like a white rhino about to snap your head off.
Just watch it (and the 2017 Welcome to the Jungle).
EDIT: someone who did know my address contacted me to tell me it was the fourth in the Jumanji series, since apparently the second was called Zathura. I am corrected and humbled both.
