Nearly, but not quite.

This was nearly a movie with a small cast in confined quarters that could have made me love the family atmosphere between the crew of a fishing trawler. But it didn’t.

This was nearly a movie about a socially inept female scientist who was so socially inept it wouldn’t have pushed the boat out to make this a neurodiverse character. But it wasn’t.

This was nearly a movie in which a female lead didn’t have an awkward subplot in which she falls in lust with a male character. But it wasn’t.

This was nearly a movie in which the skipper didn’t make a clumsy and ham fisted decision to sail the boat into an exclusion zone. But it wasn’t.

This was nearly a movie in which the boundaries of science so unexplored could have teetered close to the supernatural without it losing an edge. But it wasn’t.

The movie I could nearly have watched was actually much better than the movie I did watch. Instead it felt a bit more like Feeders, except with a better budget and a modern camera.
